Ekol Maritime Training Center has been providing services in the “Maritime Training Sector” since 1997, under the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, and the Ministry of National Education. Ekol Maritime has contributed to the maritime sector by training many individuals, ranging from Watchkeeping/Engine Officers to Long-distance Captains/Chief Engineers, to date.
With the start of each new academic year, there is excitement and pride in training new Ekol trainees. The maritime education programs carried out within the institution primarily focus on compliance with both national and international regulations. In this context, our Ekol Maritime Security Applied Training Center, located in Beykoz, ranks second in our region after the ITU Faculty of Maritime Studies in terms of its facilities.
Since July 2015, in addition to Ekol trainees, students from the Piri Reis University Faculty of Maritime and Maritime Vocational School, Yildiz Technical University students, and trainees from six other maritime courses in Istanbul have also been receiving practical training in Basic Firefighting, Using Lifesaving Appliances, Personal Survival at Sea, Advanced Firefighting, and Using a Fast Rescue Boat at our facility. These types of training continue to be provided to seafarers who have graduated from their respective schools.
One of the major challenges currently faced in the maritime education sector is the difficulty in finding internship ships for students, particularly for first-time certified seafarers, as well as employment issues. As an institution, a new initiative has been implemented to address this issue, and the Ekol Private Employment Office, operating in collaboration with İŞKUR in our Üsküdar campus, has been established in accordance with the MLC2006 Convention and offers official job placement services.
As a result of this service, our trainees who receive two-year watchkeeping and engineering officer training no longer face the challenge of finding an internship ship. This service is also provided free of charge to all trainees receiving training at our institution.
With its 3 administrators, 35 expert trainers in their fields, 12 employees, 420 trainee capacity, and the authority to open 92 different courses, Ekol Maritime is the largest private maritime training institution in our country. Due to its institutional structure, it closely follows national and international developments in the sector and continues to lead the way in maritime education.
