Combined Medical First Aid and Medical Care Training Course

The Combined First Aid and Medical Care Course is a vital training that prepares seafarers for emergency situations they may encounter in the maritime environment. It is conducted in accordance with the IMO Model Courses 1.14 and 1.15 standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and is included under STCW 78 Convention Regulation VI/4.

Who can participate?

This course is available to ship captains, first officers, and seafarers with officer qualifications. Participants must meet the requirements specified in the Seafarers’ Regulations.

Main Objectives of the Training Program

  • Acquiring first aid and medical care skills at sea
  • Gaining the ability to intervene correctly in emergencies for patients and injured individuals
  • Providing effective solutions for illnesses and accidents that may occur at sea
  • Effectively using equipment that should be available in the ship’s infirmary
  • Gaining the ability to call for medical help via radio and organize patient evacuation

Training Duration

  • The course lasts a total of 4 days (32 hours), with 8 hours of instruction per day.

Training Content

1st Day:

  • Medical care for patients and injured persons aboard the ship
  • First response to accidents, bleeding, burns, fractures
  • Dressing and bandaging techniques

2nd Day:

  • Patient care methods
  • Diseases and emergencies
  • Infectious diseases and prevention methods

3rd Day:

  • Rescuing casualties
  • Disinfection and hygiene
  • International maritime medical regulations

4th Day:

  • Receiving medical advice via radio
  • Patient evacuation by helicopter and other means
  • Cooperation with port health authorities

Evaluation and Certification

At the end of the course, written, oral, and practical exams are conducted. Participants who score 60 points or above are considered successful and are entitled to receive the Course Completion Certificate. The certificate is approved by the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs, and Communications.
