Survival Craft & Rescue Boats Training Course

In accordance with international standards that prioritize safety in the maritime industry, ship personnel must be prepared for emergencies. “Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Training” is designed under STCW Convention Regulation VI/2 and IMO Model Course 1.23, aiming to ensure that seafarers can effectively use lifeboats, life rafts, and other rescue equipment.

Who Can Attend?

To attend this course, participants must have at least a primary school diploma and be at least 16 years old. Seafarers are required to complete this training to effectively participate in rescue operations.

Main Objectives of the Training Program

The main objective of this program is to train certified radio operators and provide the following competencies:

To ensure proficiency in the use of lifesaving appliances (life rafts, lifeboats, and rescue boats).

To inspect the launched survival craft and enhance maneuvering skills.

To acquire knowledge and skills in emergency evacuation procedures.

To ensure the effective use of pyrotechnic signaling devices and communication equipment.

To raise awareness of survival techniques at sea.

Training Duration

This course lasts a total of 3 days and consists of 18 lesson hours:

  • 10 hours of theoretical lessons
  • 8 hours of practical training

Training Content

Day 1

  • Structure, equipment, and launching methods of life rafts and lifeboats
  • Procedures to follow after abandoning the ship
  • Use and hazards of loaded release systems

Day 2

  • Managing survival craft after abandoning the ship
  • Hypothermia and protection methods
  • Helicopter evacuation procedures in rescue operations

Day 3

  • Use of communication and location devices (EPIRB, SART, VHF radio)
  • Use of pyrotechnic distress signals
  • First aid applications for casualties

Evaluation and Certification

At the end of the course, trainees will undergo written, oral, and practical exams. Trainees who successfully pass these exams will be awarded a Course Completion Certificate. Those who meet the relevant requirements will be eligible to receive the Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Certificate issued by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
