Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques Training Course

Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques is a training program aimed at enhancing the survival skills of maritime personnel in emergency situations at sea. The training, designated with the IMO code 1.19, is conducted in accordance with the STCW Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-1 standards. This course enables seafarers to properly use survival equipment and apply survival techniques in emergencies such as falling into the water or abandoning a ship.

    • Seafarers who will take on any position on board ships.
    • Mariners who are required to obtain the “Personal Survival Techniques Certificate” in compliance with STCW requirements.
    • Candidates planning to pursue a career in the maritime industry.

Main Objectives of the Training Program

The main objective of this program is to train certified radio operators and provide the following competencies:

To have basic knowledge and skills in sea survival.

To apply the correct procedures in case of abandoning the ship.

To use lifesaving appliances effectively.

To learn survival techniques on the water.

Training Duration

The training consists of a total of 18 lesson hours:

  • Theoretical Training: 10 lesson hours
  • Practical Training: 8 lesson hours

Training Content

Training Schedule

Day 1:

  • Principles of safety and survival at sea
  • Preparation for emergencies
  • Abandoning the ship
  • Types and usage of lifesaving appliances

Day 2:

  • Introduction and use of personal lifesaving appliances
  • Personal survival techniques at sea (jumping into water, swimming, using a life raft)

Day 3:

  • Principles of survival
  • Actions to take in emergencies
  • Main dangers for survivors at sea (environmental and physiological hazards)

Evaluation and Certification

At the end of the training, a comprehensive exam is conducted to assess the participants’ knowledge and skills.

Successful candidates are awarded a “Course Completion Certificate.” Those who meet the necessary requirements after the training can obtain their official certification from the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs, and Communications.
