Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting Training Course

The Fire Prevention and Firefighting Basic Training Course is a comprehensive training program designed in accordance with international maritime standards, based on IMO Model Course 1.20 and STCW 78 criteria. This course aims to equip personnel working in the maritime sector with the necessary knowledge and skills to minimize fire risks, effectively intervene in emergencies, and apply firefighting techniques. Theoretical and practical lessons provided at training facilities approved by the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications offer trainees a safe maritime environment.

Who Can Participate?

This course is aimed at all maritime personnel who meet the requirements specified in the Seafarers’ Regulations and are required to gain competence in fire prevention and firefighting. Critical for ship safety, this training is designed to ensure that personnel at all levels aboard a ship are prepared to handle fire emergencies.

Main Objectives of the Training Program

The main objectives of the program are:

  • To equip participants with fire prevention and firefighting skills as defined under STCW 78,
  • To ensure continuous preparedness for fire-related emergencies,
  • To minimize fire risks on board and enable the effective application of firefighting techniques.

In line with these objectives, the course combines theoretical knowledge with practical training, ensuring participants gain competence in real-life scenarios.

Training Duration

The course follows a full-day training model, consisting of a total of 18 instructional hours:

  • Theoretical Instruction: 10 hours
  • Practical Training: 8 hours

The weekly distribution of the training content is as follows:

  • Day 1: Minimizing fire risks, ship fire organization, equipment knowledge, and determining emergency escape routes.
  • Day 2: Fire prevention measures on board, alarm systems, and fire/smoke detection methods.
  • Day 3: Firefighting techniques, use of firefighting equipment, and conducting rescue operations.

Training Content

The course covers the following topics to ensure fire safety in the maritime sector:

  • Ship Fire Organization: Reducing fire risks, effective use of fixed and personal equipment, and determining emergency escape routes.
  • Types and Sources of Fire: Analysis of fire and explosion elements, ignition types, materials causing flame formation, and fire spread dynamics.
  • Firefighting Techniques: Use of various firefighting equipment (fixed systems, firefighter gear, personal protective equipment), and intervention methods for electrical, fuel, and propane fires.

Assessment and Certification

At the end of the program, trainees are subject to oral, written, and practical exams under the Seafarer Training Courses Regulation. Candidates who pass the exam are awarded an official Course Completion Certificate approved by the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs, and Communications.
