Advanced Training for Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations Training Course

The Advanced Training for Cargo Operations on Chemical Tankers course is designed to provide officers and operational personnel working on chemical tankers with advanced knowledge and skills regarding cargo operations. This course is conducted in accordance with the STCW 78 Convention Rule V/1-1, Code A-V/1-1, and Table A-V/1-1-3. It complies with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Model Course 1.03 standards and focuses on topics such as chemical cargo transportation, loading and unloading procedures, safety measures, and emergency procedures.

Cargo handling processes on chemical tankers require specialized procedures based on the physical and chemical properties of the cargo. This course is designed to equip ship officers and relevant personnel in the maritime industry with the knowledge and competence to manage chemical cargoes in compliance with international regulations. The primary objective of the course is to ensure that loading, unloading, and transfer operations are carried out safely and efficiently.

Who Can Participate?

This course is open to individuals who meet the requirements outlined in the Seafarers’ Regulation and are required to complete Advanced Training for Cargo Operations on Chemical Tankers. Specifically, the course is mandatory for:

  • Officers serving on chemical tankers,
  • Seafarers responsible for loading, unloading, and cargo handling operations,
  • Personnel directly responsible for tank cleaning or other cargo-related procedures.

Main Objectives of the Training Program

This course aims to enable participants to:

  • Acquire the necessary knowledge and competencies before working on chemical tankers,
  • Develop the ability to safely conduct loading, unloading, and other cargo handling operations,
  • Recognize the physical and chemical properties of chemical cargoes,
  • Learn to apply occupational health and safety measures,
  • Identify chemical hazards and respond correctly to emergencies,
  • Understand pollution prevention measures,
  • Gain the competence to perform cargo operations in compliance with national and international regulations.

Total Duration: 4 Days (28 lesson hours)

Daily Lesson Hours: 7 lesson hours

Training Content

The training content includes theoretical knowledge and simulation-supported practical lessons. The topics covered throughout the course are as follows:

Day 1: Chemical Tanker Systems and Safety

  • General structure and equipment of chemical tankers
  • Cargo pumps, piping systems, and tank cleaning systems
  • Cargo area ventilation and inert gas systems
  • Tanker safety culture and management systems

Day 2: Cargo Operations and Risks

  • Loading and unloading plans
  • Tank cleaning and atmosphere control
  • Physical and chemical properties of chemical substances
  • Hazard identification and preventive measures

Day 3: Emergency Management

  • Firefighting on chemical tankers
  • Enclosed space entry safety
  • Health risks caused by chemical substances
  • Electrical safety and use of protective equipment

Day 4: Environmental Protection and Regulations

  • MARPOL 73/78 and environmental regulations
  • IMO and IBC Code applications for chemical tankers
  • International regulations on chemical cargo
  • Medical emergency management

Evaluation and Certification

At the end of the course, an exam will be conducted in accordance with the Seafarers’ Training Courses Regulation. Participants who pass the exam will receive a “Course Completion Certificate.” Those who successfully complete the training program and meet the necessary requirements will be certified by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
