Elementary First Aid Training Course

The Elementary First Aid Training for maritime sector workers aims to equip participants with basic first aid skills to respond to health emergencies that may occur on board a ship. This training is conducted in accordance with STCW 78 Rule VI/I, Code A-VI/I, and IMO Model Course 1.13. At the end of the course, participants will have the competence to respond to emergencies in a conscious and swift manner.

Who Can Participate?

Elementary First Aid Training is open to everyone who is required to obtain a First Aid Certificate under the Seafarers’ Regulations to work aboard a ship. This training is mandatory, especially for ship captains, officers, ship personnel, and aspiring seafarers.

Main Objectives of the Training Program

With this course, participants are aimed to:

  • Perform the initial intervention when faced with an accident or medical emergency,
  • Assess the condition of the casualty or patient and provide appropriate interventions,
  • Learn life-saving techniques,
  • Be proficient in basic procedures such as bleeding control, shock management, and burn treatment,
  • Gain knowledge on casualty handling techniques and the use of emergency kits.

Training Duration

The course duration is a total of 18 instructional hours, planned over 3 days with 6 hours of lessons per day.

Training Content

Day 1

  • Accident and threat assessment
  • Methods of giving alarms
  • Structure and functions of the human body
  • Diagnosis and assessment of wounds

Day 2

  • Casualty assessment and proper positioning
  • Life-saving techniques (CPR)
  • Bleeding control and shock management
  • Intervention for electrical shock and burn injuries

Day 3

  • Casualty rescue and transportation
  • Use of emergency kits
  • Bandaging techniques and appropriate material usage

Assessment and Certification

At the end of the course, written and practical exams will be conducted in accordance with the Seafarer Training Courses Regulation. Candidates who score 60 or higher will be considered successful and eligible to receive a Course Completion Certificate. The certificate, approved by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, ensures that seafarers gain the competencies required to meet STCW regulations.
